How can I hate a television show that has given me so much and taken nothing in return?
I can’t. I love The Simpsons. The episodes that have touched me will be cherished for the rest of my life. That being said, I gave up on the new episodes in the late 90’s when I felt that the overall quality of the show started to decline. I’ve probably only seen 10 or 15 new episodes in the past decade and I haven’t particularly cared for any of them. People tell me the show is currently “good” again, but that isn’t enough to get me to tune in. I’ve just stopped caring about the program and I can’t return to it. Nevertheless, if I’ve said that I hated The Simpsons in the past, I was wrong. I love The Simpsons. I watch the old episodes on DVD on a daily basis and they still make me laugh and feel warm inside. This is an amazing show and it will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the most important television shows of all time. Nevertheless, I hope that these contract disputes are the end of a show that is long past its prime. I want the show to be over. Like an elderly person closing at the end of their twilight years, The Simpsons are old, they repeat themselves and all of their friends have long since passed on… remember Drexell’s Class?
Fox could actually make more money if it got cancelled. Current contracts prevent them from syndicating on cable or the internet. Money ruins everything good :-(
